'Shymer' Baglio di Pianetto 2020
Organic and biodynamicThe "Shymer" is a full-bodied red wine obtained from a blend of Syrah and Merlot grapes, grown in different areas and terroir of Sicily. The nose plays on floral and fruity tones with hints of spices, Mediterranean scrubs and toasted. The taste is warm, rich and intense, characterized by an intense and silky tannin and a precious freshness
This "Shymer" tells the story of the dream or the "chimera" and indeed in French its name indicates precisely this term. It is indeed the desire that has always accompanied the Marzotto family, that of creating the perfect wine under the Baglio di Pianetto label. As we well know, however, perfection is not of this world, even if judging by the scores obtained with this vintage the winery is really close. We are faced with a bottle of good body, endowed with harmony both on the palate and on the nose, in which Syrah and Merlot manage to integrate perfectly, each giving its own peculiarities to the final blend.
The "Shymer" is made starting from a blend of international red grape varieties. The Syrah, a variety that has proven to reach important qualitative levels in Sicily, merges with 50% Merlot. The former is cultivated in Contrada Pianetto, in Santa Cristina di Gela, at 650 meters above sea level on a soil rich in clay and skeleton; the latter is instead grown in the vineyards surrounding Noto, at about 50meters above sea level sinking its roots in a mainly sandy terroir. The must ferments spontaneously thanks to the yeasts present on the skins in steel, with frequent pump-overs and delestage. Then follows the aging, in which the wine rests first for 12 months in both new and second or third passage barriques, and then, after the bottling operations, for another 24 months directly in glass.
The Sicilian red wine "Shymer" manifests itself visually with a typically ruby color, endowed with a beautiful depth and concentration. Ripe and fleshy fruit is distinctly perceived on the nose, enriched by spicy touches and light more Mediterranean nuances. On the palate, it is of good body, with a full and round sip thanks to a velvety and soft tannin. The taste is characterized by a pleasant fresh note, which enlivens the drinking experience. A label with which Baglio di Pianetto imposes itself on the honors of national and international critics.
