The Susumaniello del Salento Rosato 'Surò' by Leone de Castris is a fresh example of the rosé tradition of Puglia. It is vinified aiming to enhance delicacy and aroma: soft pressing, short maceration, and fermentation at low temperatures. On the nose, subtle citrus hints and intense pomegranate notes emerge. The sip is immediate, characterized by vibrant freshness and a savory profile. Excellent with seafood or flavorful soups

The Susumaniello del Salento Rosato ‘Surò’ from the renowned Apulian winery Leone De Castris is a wine that captivates the eye with its light coral pink color. This bottle is yet another demonstration of the qualities of Susumaniello, an indigenous Apulian grape variety rediscovered and enhanced in recent times, capable of producing both substantial red wines and refreshing rosés, as is the case with ‘Surò’.

The ‘Surò’ Susumaniello del Salento Leone De Castris Rosato is made solely from Susumaniello grapes sourced from vines with an average age of 15 years, cultivated in medium-textured soils in the Salento area. Harvesting usually takes place in the first decade of September, with the bunches being subjected to a gentle crushing and destemming before undergoing a short skin maceration of a few hours, carried out at a temperature between 8 and 10 °C. This is followed by draining and decanting for 24 hours before the alcoholic fermentation of the must in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, lasting about 20 days. The subsequent aging phase of a few months also takes place in steel, in such a way that preserve the freshness and aromas of the wine intact.

In appearance, the Rosato ‘Surò’ Susumaniello del Salento by Leone De Castris expresses a beautiful pale coral pink hue. Pleasant on the nose with aromas of pink grapefruit and pomegranate that blend with floral hints of violet. The sip, delicate yet satisfying, is characterized by a round body and pronounced freshness, as well as a distinct savory note that emerges at the finish. This rosé wine from Salento pairs well with seafood cuisine, particularly with warm and cold appetizers, fish soups, or seafood risottos.
