The Vermentino "Grottaia" by Caccia al Piano is a fresh and fragrant white wine that originates from the Bolgheri area. This ancient grape variety, widespread in many countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, particularly loves the warm climate and the presence of sea breezes. Along the Tuscan coast, it has found an ideal habitat to express itself with ripe and rich fruit. The version proposed by Caccia al Piano includes a small percentage of Sauvignon Blanc, which helps enhance the aromatic notes and gives a vein of clear citrus freshness. Floral and fruity, it is a young and fragrant white ideal for tasting with typical seafood dishes.
The "Grottaia" Vermentino is the white interpretation of the Bolgheri territory, which has become famous especially for the Supertuscans made with the most renowned international red grape varieties. The vineyards are cultivated on lands that once belonged to the noble estates of the Della Gherardesca family. About twenty hectares cultivated in the prestigious area of Via Bolgherese, on valuable clay-limestone soils particularly suited for quality viticulture. The Vermentino and Sauvignon Blanc grapes are hand-picked with selection in the vineyard of the best bunches, which are quickly transferred to the winery for a gentle pressing. The free-run must ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 12-14 °C for about two weeks. Before bottling, the wine matures for a few months in steel tanks on its own lees.
The Vermentino "Grottaia" by Caccia al Piano is the result of an interesting blend of two complementary grapes: the indigenous Vermentino and the international Sauvignon Blanc. In appearance, it presents a bright straw-yellow color. Fruity and intense, it expresses an elegant bouquet with aromas of fresh fruit, white peach, yellow fruit, pineapple, soft tropical hints and light nuances of orange blossom and hawthorn. Savory and clear, it opens on the palate with juicy and persistent fruit, which unfolds harmoniously towards a finish of lively citrus freshness. A label to discover the side whitist of Bolgheri.
