Fattoria dei Barbi

One of the oldest wineries in Montalcino: the long and noble history of Brunello

Fattoria dei Barbi is a solid Montalcino winery with roots in the Middle Ages. The Colombini family, owners of the winery, can in fact boast a long tradition of Sienese nobility and have owned vineyards in Montalcino since 1352. The reclaiming of these lands, starting from the end of the 18th century, led to the foundation of the winery, which has achieved important results, such as the promotion and valorisation of Brunello di Montalcino throughout the world since the 1960s.

Today the Fattoria dei Barbi is led by Stefani Cinelli Colombini, a fine producer who has been able to take on the responsibility of a great legacy and project it into the future. In fact, his work consists of reconciling tradition with an openness to modernity through continuous experimentation and a calibrated use of technology. The 75 hectares of vines owned, situated between 250 and 450 metres above sea level on soils rich in marl, sand and clay, are cultivated with a high planting density and low yields per hectare, in order to guarantee the high quality of the grapes. Since 1997, the historic estates in Montalcino have been joined by a 28-hectare property in the Maremma, Aquilaia dei Barbi, purchased by Stefano before investments in the area became fashionable.

The Fattoria dei Barbi, with its large number of vineyards, produces around 800,000 bottles a year, 200,000 of which are Brunello alone, at a very competitive price. These wines are characterised by a typical and territorial style, with a modern aromatic cleanliness and a quality/price ratio that has few equals in the splendid territory of Montalcino.
