The “Ardy” from Cascina Melognis is a fine red wine of great freshness coming from the Saluzzesi hills, an area of historical vocation. In this bottle, Barbera meets Chatus, also known as Nebbiolo di Dronero, a grape variety probably of French origin that has now taken root in Piemonte, currently the subject of a true rediscovery. The nose perceives intense hints of red and black fruit, while on the palate it surprises with its predominant freshness, which balances a warm and material sip.

Cascina Melognis Colline Saluzzesi ‘Ardy’ is a Piedmontese label with distinctive typicity, the result of a skillful blend of traditional varieties from the area. The Controlled Designation of Origin Colline Saluzzesi was established in 1996 and is based on red wines produced on the hills surrounding Saluzzo, a municipality in the province of Cuneo located at the foot of Monviso, not far from the source of the Po River.

Colline Saluzzesi ‘Ardy’ Cascina Melognis consists of a blend of Barbera (70%) and Nebbiolo di Dronero (30%), a local variety also known as Chatus. The vines are situated on soils characterized by an abundant presence of clay and gravel, located at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level with a southwest exposure. The agronomic management is based on the principles of organic farming, and the harvest is carried out entirely by hand when the grapes have reached the ideal stage of ripeness. This is followed by spontaneous alcoholic fermentation of the must in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, accompanied by about 2 weeks of maceration on the skins. Subsequently, the mass undergoes 18 months of aging in third and fourth passage oak barrels, followed by further refinement in the bottle before its final release on the market.

The red wine ‘Ardy’ Colline Saluzzesi Cascina Melognis is characterized by a color between ruby and purple. On the nose, vivid aromas of red and black fruits meet complex balsamic and spicy suggestions. The warm and full-bodied entry on the palate is supported by a fresh-salty shoulder and well-managed tannins, components that contribute to the breadth and overall taste structure of the wine. In the finish, the precious fruity and spicy sensations perceived on the nose re-emerge.
