The Barbera d'Alba produced by the Bajaj winery is a fragrant and fruity version of this popular and ancient Piedmontese grape variety. It originates in the lands of Roero, which impart a particular finesse and delicacy to this wine, usually characterized by exuberance and intensity. The result of an old vineyard, which yields few bunches per plant but with remarkable aromatic concentration, it expresses the characteristic fruity notes of the grape variety, enveloped in a pleasant expressive harmony and freshness, which gives smoothness to the sip without overdoing the freshness. A great gastronomic wine, particularly suitable for pairing with first courses featuring flavorful sauces, ragù, or roasted white meats or small game birds on the spit.
The Barbera d'Alba Bajaj is one of the wines that best represents the careful work of this family-run winery. The estate extends over the hills of Monteu Roero, in the heart of this famous Piedmontese wine region. In this area, the classic indigenous grape varieties are cultivated on sandy soils, which favor expressive finesse over structure and power. The Barbera grapes and a small part of Nebbiolo come from a old vineyard of over 80 years, a true historical heritage of the winery. The grapes undergo destemming followed by spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks using a pied de cuve and a maceration on the skins with periodic pump-overs and punch downs. The wine matures partly in steel tanks and partly in used barriques. Bottling takes place without filtration or clarification and with a minimal addition of sulfites.
The Barbera d'Alba is the most important label of the Bajaj winery, as it comes from the most prestigious parcel of the estate, which has always been able to produce superior quality grapes, regardless of the climatic conditions of the vintage. In appearance, it is a beautiful dark ruby red with bright purple reflections. Intense and rich, it reveals on the nose aromas of ripe red fruit, wild blackberry, woodland strawberries, cherry, red-fleshed plum, floral hints of violet, and spicy nuances. Of medium structure, it has a delicate tannic texture, juicy fruit, and a finish of lively freshness.
