The Barbera d'Alba by Elio Altare is an interpretation in the name of elegance of this historic grape variety, which has been part of everyday life in Piedmont for centuries. Too often dismissed as a simple and easy-drinking wine, in the hands of a great winemaker, Barbera can also rise to a high-level wine, capable of expressing a good aromatic complexity, a pleasant taste balance, and a beautiful persistence. Following his personal style, Altare ages the wine in used barriques, in order to soften the exuberances and find the right expressive balance.
The Barbera d'Alba is one of the most interesting expressions of Elio Altare. It is made from grapes from vineyards cultivated in La Morra, on soils of calcareous marls rich in sand. The estate is managed with great agronomic attention, without the use of synthetic chemical substances and with the utmost respect for nature, aiming to obtain healthy and ripe grapes. In the winery, efforts are made to maximize the characteristics of the raw material with minimal intervention in the vinifications. At the end of the harvest, the grapes are sent for fermentation in rotofermenters.at controlled temperature, with maceration on the skins for 3 or 4 days. Before being released on the market, the wine rests in used French oak barriques for 5 months.
The Barbera d'Alba by Elio Altare confirms the high level of the range of reds from this innovative winery in the Langhe. The wine presents itself with a bright and intense purple-red color. On the nose, it expresses a bouquet characterized by aromas of ripe cherry, small dark berries, sour cherry, plums, hints of humus, and sweet spices. On the palate, it has a medium structure, with a juicy and lively fruit, a fine tannic texture, and a fresh and savory finish.
