Tenuta di Castellaro introduces the White ‘Pomice’, an interpretation capable of reflecting the sunny and marine character of the beautiful Aeolian Islands, a volcanic archipelago located in the northeast of Sicily. This label takes its name from the white magmatic rock abundantly found in the vineyards, lighter and fresher than obsidian, characteristics that are found in the White ‘Pomice’. It is the flagship white wine of Tenuta di Castellaro, released for the first time in 2008 and quickly became a staple for the winery.
The White ‘Pomice’ of Tenuta di Castellaro is born from a blend of Malvasia delle Lipari (60%) and Carricante (40%), varieties grown as bush vines on sandy and deep volcanic soils, particularly rich in microelements. The plants, cultivated under organic farming practices, benefit from the altitude of 350 meters above sea level and the characteristic breezy Mediterranean climate. The harvest is carried out by hand with a careful selection of the bunches, which are then transferred to the winery for soft pressing followed by 10-12 hours of static decantation. Subsequently, the mass of Malvasia delle Lipari ferments and matures in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks while the Carricante is vinified and aged in third and fourth passage barriques, with 6 months of resting on the lees associated with periodic batonnage. After blending, the wine is bottled and left to refine for at least another 6 months before commercialization.
Tenuta di Castellaro ‘Pomice’ White is straw yellow in color with gold-green reflections. The nose evokes pronounced floral and fruity notes combined with sensations of citrus and Mediterranean scrub, as well as intense briny mineral puffs. Harmonious and fresh on the palate, with excellent softness and dynamism, characterized by a decisive saline finish.
