The Etna Rosso "Ghiaia Nera" by Tasca d'Almerita is a blend of the best Nerello grapes from the northern slope of Etna, where the Tascante estate is located. The name refers to the color of the soil, a fascinating black characteristic of volcanic lands. It is an aromatic, fine and very balanced wine, with hints of red fruit that meet notes of salinity and underbrush aromas. Very fresh and easy-drinking, the subtle tannins make the sip more substantial and crunchy.

The renowned Sicilian wine estate Tasca d’Almerita presents the Etna Rosso ‘Ghiaia Nera’, a Nerello Mascalese with a vibrant mineral character produced from grapes sourced from the Tascante Estate. The Tascante project was initiated by the Tasca d’Almerita family in 2007 on the slopes of Mount Etna, specifically in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. The foundation behind the project is to understand and enhance the strong bond between Nerello Mascalese and the volcanic land of Etna, elements that interact to create wines with a unique character, such as the ‘Ghiaia Nera’.

Tasca d’Almerita Tenuta Tascante Etna Rosso ‘Ghiaia Nera’ is a 100% Nerello Mascalese from vines cultivated on terraces carved from black volcanic soils, which is the origin of the label's name. In particular, the vineyards are distributed between the municipalities of Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia, on the northern slope of Etna, at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level. The harvest takes place in October and is followed by a traditional red winemaking process, with alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks at contact with the skins and complete malolactic fermentation. Once the fermentation processes are completed, the wine is aged for 12 months in 25 hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels, which precedes bottling and further resting in the bottle before its final release on the market.

The Etna Rosso ‘Ghiaia Nera’ from Tenuta Tascante Tasca d’Almerita has a ruby red color. The aromatic range evokes scents of red fruits, violet, and underbrush that meet deep sensations of salinity and dark spices. On the palate, it is fine and very balanced, with pronounced freshness and a subtle tannic structure guiding the material and crunchy progression, with a very long persistence.
