Istante' Franz Haas 2022
"Istante" by Franz Haas is a red wine produced in Alto Adige from international varieties typically used in Bordeaux blends. Vinified in open vats and aged in barriques, it emanates intense fruity aromas of plums, figs, and dates that harmoniously return on the palate, supported by a fine and layered sip, with a complex tannic structure.
The Franz Haas “Istante” is a South Tyrolean red wine produced since 1997, a blend that comes from 4 different international grapes : Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The uniqueness of this bottle lies in the proportions of the grape varieties, which are never known until the moment of blending and, as the name suggests, are decided “at the moment.” A red made from Franz's “infallible” instinct in choosing the best barriques for the aging phase. Another detail that distinguishes this bottle is the label by the artist Riccardo Schweizer, sure to impress the most refined guests.
“Istante” Franz Haas comes from vines cultivated using the Guyot system and rooted at the foot of the South Tyrolean mountains between 250 and 500 meters above sea level. Fermentation takes place in open tanks to encourage greater extraction of color and tannins. Then it continues with aging in barriques for 18 months, followed by another year in the bottle necessary to bring with its unmistakable noble and elegantcharacter.
The red “Istante” Franz Haas is of great intensity in color, tending towards garnet red. Prelude to the olfactory part, which is very focused on the fruity aspect, in addition to the immediacy of ripe red fruits, we perceive Middle Eastern nuances such as tea leaves, dates, and figs. The sip is endowed with remarkable persistence and a complex, silky tannin that makes it a wine with a strong gastronomic power, interesting to pair with meat roasts and pasta with earthy sauces. Franz Haas would probably be proud if the best moment to drink it were decided at the last minute, in a moment of inspiration and instinct, just as he did, at the moment.
