The Lagrein Riserva "Urban" from Cantina Tramin originates from Termeno, in the Alto Adige area, renowned for the production of high-quality white wines. The activity began as a shared project of several families in 1898, led by Christian Schrott, the parish priest of Termeno, who fought to ensure a future for the few winemakers in the area. Over time, the work of the winery has continued and expanded, becoming one of the largest cooperatives in the area and an example for the international market: in the 1990s, the arrival of winemaker Willi Stürz marked a further leap in quality, initiating the project for the selection of indigenous grape varieties, steering production towards excellence. Today, there are about 160 families and 270 hectares fully planted with a commitment to excellence and attention to detail.
The pure Lagrein grapes of the Lagrein Riserva "Urban" from Cantina Tramin come from vineyards located between 230 and 300 meters above sea level. The exposure is to the south/southeast with a perfect presence of sunlight for a good part of the year, an optimal condition for the complete ripening of the grapes; the soil is mainly composed of gravel, limestone, and porphyry with a small presence of sand and clay. The climate is influenced by cold winds from the north, but at the same time by the mild Mediterranean climate from the south that balances the temperatures. Harvest usually begins in mid-October and is carried out manually, taking care of the transported grapes. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation also occurs. It ages in barrique for about 12 months and rests in the bottle for 6.
The color of the Lagrein Riserva "Urban" from Cantina Tramin is an intense ruby red, with vibrant hues tending towards violet. On the nose, it releases delicate aromas of violet and red berry fruits such as blueberry and blackcurrant; on the palate, it is bold, elegant, and pleasant with soft tannins and an inviting final persistence that entices glass after glass.
