The Marsala Superiore Dolce “Oltre Cento” by Florio is a young, soft, and enveloping version of this ancient and noble Sicilian fortified wine. It is made with grapes from two white grape varieties historically present in the area: the indigenous Catarratto and Grillo, created in the 1800s by crossing Catarratto and Moscato d’Alessandria, specifically to create a new slightly aromatic variety to be used in the production of Marsala. The brief aging in wood preserves the fruity aromas of the grapes, softened by the presence of sugars, which makes the sip particularly seductive and appealing.
The Oltre Cento is a Marsala Superiore Dolce produced by the Florio winery, a historic name in Sicilian wine, which since the early 1800s has established itself as a major producer of fortified wines, particularly sought after in international markets and especially in England. It is a vintage wine made with grapes from vineyards cultivated in Marsala, Petrosino, and the first coastal hinterland of Trapani, on sandy-rich soils. The warm and dry climate, allows for excellent ripening of the grapes with very intense aromas. The grapes are harvested in light over-ripeness and after a gentle pressing, fermentation takes place at controlled temperature and the preparation of the blend with the addition of mistella to the wine: cooked must and distilled wine. The Marsala ages in oak barrels of various sizes for at least 24 months and completes the aging with a period of 2 months in the bottle.
Marsala Superiore Dolce "Oltre Cento" by Florio is a particularly enveloping interpretation, capable of very well representing the warm and sunny character of the Sicilian land and its centuries-old tradition in the production of fortified wines. It presents itself with an amber color and bright antique gold reflections.
