The Pellegrino winery was founded back in 1880 and has accompanied the development and progressive qualitative growth of Sicilian enology over the centuries with constant commitment. In addition to the historic location in Marsala, Pellegrino now owns other estates in the western part of the island. A a wide choice of different soils and microclimates, allowing for the cultivation of every variety in the most suitable area. Current production is mainly directed towards dry wines; however, the tradition of Marsala is part of the winery's DNA, which continues to produce interesting versions that live up to its ancient fame.
The Marsala Superiore Riserva Oro Dolce 'Bip Benjamin' from Pellegrino is a label that perfectly represents the history of the territory. It is made with a predominant percentage of Grillo, complemented by Catarratto and Inzolia. The grapes come from the estate located inland from Mazara del Vallo, particularly suitable for the cultivation of white grape varieties. Fermentation is interrupted by adding the musts with brandy, in order to retain a sugar residue, which makes the wine particularly smooth. The Marsala matures for a minimum period of 48 months in oak barrels of 80 and 50 hectoliters and completes the aging process with an additional 6 months in barrique. In the glass, it presents a golden yellow color, with brilliant amber reflections. The bouquet is rich and broad, with aromas of tropical fruit, citrus zest, honey, candied fruit, caramel, notes of vanilla, and noble woods. On the palate, it is warm and harmonious, soft and complex, extending towards a persistent, fresh, and savory finish.
