The Merlot Riserva “Artiul” by Ronco Severo is a red that combines power and austerity with the fruit richness typical of the grape variety, sketching a varied liquid with clear definition. We are in Prepotto, province of Udine, a wine region that has managed to attract the interest of numerous enthusiasts, thanks to increasingly convincing interpretations, especially regarding the production of white wines. The Ronco Severo winery, now led by Stefano Novello, has always had clear ideas about the stylistic hallmark of its liquids: modernity and elegance, without giving up a sensitive approach in the vineyard and during vinification. Thus, no to chemical or synthetic products, for certified organic agriculture. In the winery, interventions are kept to the strict minimum, so as not to distort the identities of the local grape varieties. The red Merlot Riserva “Artiul” is obtained from pure grapes of the same variety, coming from a selection of old vines cultivated.in organic farming. The grapes are harvested late, in order to concentrate aromas and extracts in the bunches, also thanks to extremely low yields. In the winery, spontaneous alcoholic fermentation continues in truncated-conical oak vats and long macerations on the skins. The liquid ages for 3 years in barrique.
The Merlot Riserva “Artiul” fills the glass with a fascinating intense ruby red color, edged with garnet hues. Explosive from the first sniff, it unfolds suggestions of tobacco, cocoa, earth, underbrush, and macerated berries: easy to get lost in! A splendid and compact sip, where the fruity richness of the Merlot never risks becoming static or complacent, as it is enlivened by very fine tannins and a right balance of sapidity and freshness. A bottle in a suit and tie, that never gets disheveled.
