The Munjebel Rosso “VA” by Frank Cornelissen is a wine of refined elegance and vibrant freshness. It is produced with grapes from old vines cultivated in the highest areas of the Etna vineyard. It is an extreme wine, born from the desire to highlight especially the qualities of expressive finesse and extraordinary elegance of Nerello Mascalese. The very cool climate of the altitude and the poor soils, consisting of lava-based earth and sands, give the wine a subtle profile and a particularly interesting expressive tension. It is a wine of great charm, destined for enthusiasts of Etna wines, always in search of the thousand and different facets of the volcano.
The Rosso Munjebel “VA” is a wine of great personality, produced by Frank Cornelissen at his estate, located on the northern slope of Mongibello. The vineyards, divided into various parcels, cover a total area of about 19 hectares and are located in the Solicchiata area, in Castiglione di Sicilia. This small corner of Sicily represents a unique perspective from a pedoclimatic point of view.pedoclimatic view. Despite the low latitude, the climate on the slopes of the volcano is cool, always breezy, and characterized by significant temperature variations even during the summer months. The presence of volcanic soils rich in minerals makes the place particularly suitable for viticulture. The vineyards are managed in harmony with the environment, following a philosophy that considers nature a precious asset to be preserved in its integrity, without intervening with treatments. The wines are a direct expression of this pure and respectful vision, simple and direct emanations of healthy and ripe grapes.
The "VA" is born from vineyards over 90 years old, cultivated on their own roots in the areas of Tartaraci, Pettinociarelle, and Monte Dolce, located between 870 and 1,000 meters above sea level. This red represents the freshest, most refined, and exclusive face of Nerello Mascalese. The old vines and altitude allow for the production of grapes of the highest quality, with particularly elegant profiles. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, and the maceration on the skins lasts about 2 months.Before bottling, the wine matures in resin tanks for a few months. In the glass, it has a bright and luminous ruby red color. The aromas are intense and subtle, with notes of small red berries, hints of underbrush, mineral notes of graphite, and light smoky nuances. The sip is refined and deep, with delicate aromas, a dense tannic texture, and a savory finish of great freshness.
