'Negus' Nicola Gatta 2019
Artisanal"Negus' by producer Nicola Gatta is a red wine made from a blend of grapes, which opens to the nose like a flower bud, rich in fresh and intense aromas. Its carbonic maceration is what extracts the aromas that distinguish it from many others. Unique in its kind, with a delicate and harmonious palate supported by soft and persistent tannins throughout the sip
The ‘Negus’ from the renowned artisan producer Nicola Gatta is a red wine rich in charm and personality produced using the semi-carbonic maceration technique. Although he has made a name for himself with the exceptional quality of his Metodo Classico sparkling wines, Nicola Gatta also dedicates himself to the cultivation of black grape varieties intended for still red wines. Among these, Barbera, Marzemino, Schiava, and Incrocio Terzi stand out, grape varieties trained on pergolas in the very first tiny vineyard of his grandfather, planted over 60 years ago. The age of the vines contributes to low yields of grapes, compensated by a greater concentration and quality of the clusters.
Nicola Gatta ‘Negus’ consists of a blend of red grapes cultivated following the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture, without the use of pesticides, herbicides, and other synthetic chemical products, on limestone soils located at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level. The harvest is done by hand and the clusters are then vinified whole through maceration semi-carbonic and spontaneous alcoholic fermentation carried out by the only yeasts present on the berries and in the winery environment. Throughout the entire processing, the use of correction, stabilization, clarification, and filtration operations is excluded, in maximum respect of the wine's pure character.
The red wine ‘Negus’ from the Brescia winemaker Nicola Gatta is of intense ruby red color. From the glass emerge vivid fruity and floral aromas reminiscent of blueberry, black currant, rose, and geranium, combined with balsamic nuances and hints of spices. Exceptional is the balance on the palate, where the delicate body, juicy freshness, and soft tannic structure coexist in harmony defining a sip of great intensity and character, rich in fruity and floral returns consistent with the nose.
