Numanthia 2019
Numanthia is the iconic wine of the Spanish winery Bodega Numanthia, located in Castile and León, where only Tinta de Toro is cultivated, synonymous with Tempranillo in this wine region. This warm, deep and enveloping red wine ages for 18 months in wood, acquiring intense notes of red fruits, accompanied by delicate smoky and spicy hints, which return in a rich and soft sip, supported in the finish by soft and velvety tannins and a pleasant acidity that cleanses the palate and invites another sip. A wine of great personality that tells, in its deep aromatic facets, its important terroir of origin
The Numanthia from Bodega Numanthia is certainly the wine that best represents the style and terroir of this winery, which operates within the famous Spanish denomination Toro, located in Valdefinjas, in Castile and León, northwest of Madrid. It is an estate that is part of the renowned LVMH Group, created to gather and promote high-end brands from different sectors. As per the tradition of this sunny and generous land, it is a red wine with an intense and rich character, powerful and complex. It is made only with the best grapes from old vines that produce with low yields and high quality. The long aging in wood makes it a wine suitable for aging, to be kept for a few years in the cellar before tasting it with roasted or grilled red meats.
The red Numanthia is born in the eponymous winery, which offers wines proudly inspired by ancient local traditions dating back to Roman times. Traces of this past remain in the oldest vineyards, still cultivated as bush vines on their own roots, some reaching up to 200 years of age. The estate is conducted according to organic principles. The soils are sandy in nature, with the presence of rocks, and the climate is continental, characterized by harsh winters and hot, dry summers. The Tinta de Toro grapes come from vines that are between 50 and 100 years old. The harvest is done manually, and the bunches are rigorously selected to start the winemaking process only with the ripest and healthiest grapes. The grapes are destemmed and subjected to a cold maceration lasting 4 days, before proceeding to fermentation in stainless steel tanks, at a controlled temperature of 26-28 °C with maceration on the skins for about a week and daily pump-overs. The wine ages for 18 months in French oak barrels of 225 and 400 liters, 60% new and the remaining 40% second use.
The Numanthia wine from Bodega Numanthia perfectly embodies the character of great Spanish reds, suitable for those who prefer powerful and concentrated wines, warm and seductive. Of a beautiful dark ruby red with garnet reflections, it expresses a very intense, rich, and mature bouquet, with aromas of cherry,
