Santa Maddalena Cantina Terlano 2025
The Santa Maddalena from Cantina Terlano is a red wine from Alto Adige mainly based on Schiava, integrated with a small amount of Lagrein, which ages for about 10 months in large oak barrels. It expresses intense aromas of cherry and elderberry berries, notes of bitter almond and fresh violets, while on the palate it is soft and elegant, with balanced freshness and light tannins that extend the taste into a fruity finish.
The Santa Maddalena from Cantina Terlano brings back a blend that, in the past, gave rise to some of the most famous reds in Italy. We are indeed faced with a bottle that originates from a blend of Schiava and Lagrein, indigenous to the region, which manage to combine elegance and structure in a background of enveloping fruity notes. A label with excellent aging potential that, if left in the bottle for a few years, will undergo further evolutionary development that will enhance the tertiary sensations and deeper tasting nuances.
The Santa Maddalena wine from Cantina Terlano is born from the union of two indigenous grape varieties from Alto Adige, Schiava and Lagrein, cultivated around Bolzano in plots situated at an altitude between 250 and 900 meters above sea level, facing south and southwest. The harvest is done manually, and the grapes are carefully destemmed. The must obtained from pressing the berries ferments in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then transferred to large oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation and final aging take place, which has a total duration of 10 months. At the end of this period, the wine is ready to be bottled and put on the market.
The red Santa Maddalena signed by Cantina Terlano presents itself visually with a concentrated ruby color, endowed with a particular intensity. A clear aroma, reminiscent of elderflower, first greets the nose, then transforms into notes where nuts and violet are the undisputed protagonists. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with an elegant entry, where the freshness of the sip is appreciated. It finishes with a taste of almond. A perfect bottle to be paired at the table with land-based menus.
