Sauvignon 'El Campesino' Andrea Scovero 2020
Artisanal
Organic and biodynamic"Andrea Scovero's 'El Campesino' is a pure white wine. The grapes are fermented using indigenous yeasts and its bright golden colour comes from the 5-day maceration on the skins. A viscous and balanced drink with fruity hints, distinct spicy aromas and light balsamic hints. We can find an excellent match with tagliolini with vegetable sauce
Andrea Scovero creates “El Campesino” with the idea that drives any other of his productions: a wine made to be enjoyed, by him first and foremost. Stubbornly in search of quality, he offers here an original and sincere expression, of a complexity far from the stereotypes in vogue in the area.
“El Campesino” comes to life in Andrea Scovero's winery starting from the pure vinification of Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown in the territory where the winery is located, in Costigliole d’Asti, in the Bionzo district. The plot extends for about one hectare over the gentle slopes that outline this transitional area between Monferrato and Langhe, practically overlooking the valley of the Tanaro river and a few kilometers south of the provincial capital of Asti: at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level, they are characterized by limestone soils. The vines are now over 10 years old and are cultivated according to principles of extreme respect for the natural environment, with an extremely limited use of copper in favor of natural and sulfur-based compounds: biodynamic principles are followed and the agronomic management is fundamentally organic. The harvest, like all operations in the vineyard, is carried out manually: the grapes are gently pressed and left to ferment in steel thanks to the work of indigenous yeasts, while the simultaneous maceration on the skins lasts for 5 days. The transfer into 500-liter acacia barrels allows for the spontaneous development of malolactic fermentation and after 5 months of maturation, the Sauvignon undergoes a refinement phase in amphora.
“El Campesino” by Andrea Scovero presents itself to the eye with an intense golden yellow color. Clear and varied, the aromas present a fruity impact from sweet white pulp, then offering an enticing balsamic nuance and closing on spicy notes, with white pepper in evidence. Minty sensations are also present on the palate, for a sip that reveals an almost viscous density: an elegant softness in balance with a tonic freshness and a persistent and finely mineral finish. A personal and convincing interpretation of Sauvignon, suitable for both stewed white meats and seafood platters.
