The "Vidonia" from the Suertes del Maruqes winery is a white wine made from Palomino grapes that comes from the famous area of Orotava in the Canary Islands. The local indigenous grape called Listan Blanco is fermented by indigenous yeasts and then transferred to French oak barrels for 10 months. It is a substantial wine on the palate, yet smooth and fresh, with intense notes of banana and yeast, with a smoky and persistent finish.

“Vidonia” by Suertes del Marques is a pure Listan Blanco coming from important plots of land owned by the bodega of Jonatan Garcia Lima, vinified within its range of Vinos de Parcela, the most typically territorial creations. This is a variety that is certainly typical of the island of Tenerife, but can easily be found in various parts of the Iberian Peninsula and that goes by the more familiar name of Palomino Fino, for example, in Jerez. The name on the label recalls the history of the 17th century, the period of greatest splendor of the wine trade of the Canary Islands, when the term Vidonia generically referred to the white wines produced in the north of Tenerife, regularly exported to the United Kingdom and the West Indies.

The Listan Bianco “Vidonia” is made by Suerte del Marques as an interpretation of three different plots located in the central and eastern part of the Valle Orotava, along the northern slopes of the Teide volcano, the highest peak in all of Spain. El Barranco, La Solana, El Ciruelo are vineyards located at altitudes ranging from 350 to 520 meters above sea level, where old ungrafted Listan Blanco vines are cultivated, aged between 60 and 120 years. The training system is an original braided cordon, a method used exclusively in Tenerife: the plants extend their branches parallel to the ground and towards the valley, without having to rise much in height, to defend themselves from the wind. The soil is essentially volcanic and has a thin clay covering. The harvest is done manually between the end of August and the end of September, and the grapes are destemmed in the winery to undergo spontaneous fermentation with only indigenous yeasts, in 500-liter oak barrels; malolactic fermentation is carried out only partially, in the same containers. The aging period takes place in 25-hectoliter French oak foudres for 10 months.
