The Passito di Pantelleria “Mueggen” is a tribute to the unspoiled nature of the island. It takes its name from the location where the Zibibbo grapes of the Salvatore Murana winery grow, Mueggen, a lush, pure, and untouched area where time seems to have stood still for centuries. A label in which Sicilian citrus fruits play an important role on the nose, perfect for pairing with desserts and dry pastries at the end of a meal.
This “Mueggen” is a Passito di Pantelleria that comes from the grapes of a great white grape variety widely cultivated in Sicily, Zibibbo. The vines of this variety, cultivated by Salvatore Murana using the low bush training system, grow in one of the most isolated and remote locations in all of Pantelleria, Mueggen, which lends its name to the label, thus reinforcing its connection to the area of origin. The bunches after harvesting dry on trellises for 18-25 days, and the must obtained from pressing the berries ferments at controlled temperature in steel containers. The aging, which lasts 24-32 months depending on the vintage, always takes place in steel.
The Murana “Mueggen” presents itself visually with a color reminiscent of amber, crossed by reflections leaning more towards orange. The olfactory spectrum revolves around deep scents, where citrus fruits like lemon are distinctly perceived, then giving way to aromas of herbs. On the palate, it has an excellent body, dense and warm, with a sip in which sweetness and freshness are perfectly harmonized. It finishes with a slightly bitter aftertaste. A precious bottle, perfect also as a gift.
