Ponka' Paraschos 2018
ArtisanalThe "Ponka" by Paraschos is a white wine macerated with great personality based on white grape varieties from Collio, named after the marl and sandstone soil typical of this area. On the nose, it shows a very layered, intense, and complex aromatic spectrum, with mineral, fruity, and spicy notes. On the palate, it is fresh, round, deep, and has an extremely long persistence.
The Ponka by Paraschos is an extremely deep and territorial wine, a tribute to the typical white blend of Collio and its particular morphology. Indeed, because the name Ponka indicates the typical soil of Oslavia and its surroundings, made up of sandy and calcareous marls that give local wines a unique texture. This nectar produced by the Paraschos family, a Greek family transplanted in Collio and owner of 6 hectares of vineyard near San Floriano since 1998, is no exception. Expressive and multifaceted bottles, obtained without any enological compromise and the result of agriculture that rejects any chemical or synthetic products. Each label deserves to be tasted to fully enjoy its complex and detailed nuances. A concentrate of that magical area of Friuli, Collio.
The white Ponka is obtained from a classic blend of Collio, consisting of Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Picolit, Verduzzo, and Pinot Bianco. The grapes come from the Slatnik vineyard, located at 250 meters above sea level in the municipalities of San Floriano and Oslavia. Following non-intervention in the vineyard, spontaneous alcoholic fermentation takes place in the cellar.in oak barrels with long maceration on the skins. The liquid ages for 36 months in large oak barrels without any addition of sulfur or filtration.
The wine Ponka ignites the glass with its intense golden hue, edged with amber reflections. Complex and varied, it unfolds from the first sniff notes of orange marmalade, mineral bursts, wild herbs, and the most disparate spices. Intriguing and untamed, it continues to change in the glass, always revealing a new side of itself. On the palate, it unravels the mystery, striking for its intensity and finesse, complemented by a refreshing acidity and a slight tannic grip. Endless finish. Collio, in a bottle!
