Roma Rosso Poggio Le Volpi 2022

Roma Rosso by Poggio Le Volpi is produced in one of the most important wineries of the Castelli Romani, located in Monteporzio Catone. From the coat of arms reproduced on the label to the name of the winery itself, everything has a noble reference to the houses and splendor of Rome, which is about thirty kilometers away. The Mergè family has been involved in viticulture since 1920 and, from generation to generation, has expanded and improved both its horizons and its business dimension. Thus, it ranges from predominantly Lazio grape varieties to international ones, making experimentation one of the pillars of Poggio le Volpi, which also includes vineyards in Puglia.

The Poggio Le Volpi Roma Rosso wine has a blend composed of Montepulciano, Syrah, and Cesanese. It is therefore a wisely experimented mix of grape varieties already present in the area and others imported, such as Syrah. The vineyards rise on volcanic soils, characterized by the presence of sand. The alcoholic fermentation of the grapes takes place at controlled temperature in steel tanks, followed by a soft pressing. In the aging phase,At the end, part of the wine is aged in steel, while part is aged in wood, which can vary in capacity and origin.

The Roma Rosso by Poggio Le Volpi has the character of Roman leaders with its intense, concentrated, and impenetrable ruby red. Even once poured into the glass, the same sensation of intensity remains, with aromas that decisively engage the sense of smell: fruity notes above all, with cherries in spirits, and generally ripe red fruit. The bouquet is enriched with more balsamic notes of Mediterranean scrub, with spicy hints of vanilla. On the palate, it has a soft and warm structure, with a delicate yet present tannin. It is a decidedly balanced wine with a very long finish.
