The Slatnik by Radikon is a rich and seductive orange wine that is part of the line produced by Sasa Radikon, son of the legendary Stanko. Sasa is a young man with clear ideas, who has decided to continue his father's project, adhering to a traditional approach but reworking it according to his principles. And Sasa's intelligence lies precisely in this, in giving continuity to a historic winery in the world of artisanal wines, while bringing out his own personality. In this subtle strip that serves as a watershed between Italy and Slovenia, Sasa has decided to interpret the local grape varieties with the same love as his father but with shorter macerations. The Slatnik is an example of a wine where craftsmanship and class merge, which is no small feat! Ultimately, a great drink.
The white Slatnik comes from a blend of Chardonnay and Friulano, cultivated in the Oslavia area. In the vineyard, the approach has always been to ban any chemical substance, in order to obtain healthy and vital grapes. The grape harvest is done strictly by hand, and after the the destemming the must is fermented solely through the intervention of indigenous yeasts in truncated oak barrels, the same ones in which it will be macerated on the skins for about two weeks. The aging takes place in oak barrels of 25-35 hl and lasts about 18 months. Two months of resting in glass precede the market release.
The Slatnik wine presents itself in the glass with a deep gold color, shifting towards orange. The nose is immediately rich and varied, and surprisingly gentle, unfolding in succession buttery notes, citrus peel, and white chocolate with a floral background that refreshes the olfaction. On tasting, the liquid reveals its opulent substance, where the richness of the Chardonnay is perfectly balanced by the freshness brought by the Friulano, thus sketching a sip that is a synthesis of measure and proportion.
