Pignoletto 'P' Fattoria Monticino Rosso 2025
Pignoletto "P" is a white wine from Bologna with a fresh and pleasant character, matured briefly in barriques. On the nose, it has aromas of yellow flowers, aromatic herbs, citrus, hay, and fleshy fruit. On the palate, it reveals a delicate, very light, and smooth texture, infused with a distinct freshness.
The Pignoletto ‘P’ from Fattoria Monticino Rosso is configured as a typical expression of this white grape variety from Emilia-Romagna, which has always been present in the region where it was introduced by ancient Italic populations. Even Pliny the Elder in his Naturalis Historia (1st century AD) described grapes of “Pino Lieto”, while in subsequent centuries other authors mentioned “Uve Pignole”, typical of the Emilian-Romagnol hills. Recently, it has been confirmed that Pignoletto is a clone of Grechetto G5, also known as Grechetto di Todi or Grechetto Gentile.
Fattoria Monticino Rosso ‘P’ Pignoletto is made exclusively from grapes of the same variety, cultivated within the municipality of Imola, precisely in the Monticino Rosso and Olmo estates, on sandy-clay hills rich in gray and red clays. The harvest is carried out by hand with careful selection of the bunches, which are then gently pressed using a vacuum press, designed to limit the contact of the must with oxygen. Subsequently, the mass is placed in cold static decantation and the resulting alcoholic fermentation takes place mostly in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with a small portion that vinifies and matures on fine lees in French barriques. After a few months of aging, the two wines are then blended before bottling.
The Pignoletto dei Colli d’Imola ‘P’ from the Fattoria Monticino Rosso winery is of pure straw yellow color. The nose offers pleasant hints of citrus, white fruit, peach, aromatic herbs, wildflowers, and mineral notes. Lean, agile, and easy to drink, the sip has a distinct citrus freshness that combines with a good savory component in a long fruity and mineral finish.
