Chardonnay 'Koonunga Hill' Penfolds 2024
The Chardonnay "Koonunga Hill" is an Australian white wine with an excellent quality/price ratio: a fruity, creamy, and varietal expression, enriched by slight toasty notes due to the brief passage in French barriques. Soft and warm notes combine with primary aromas of exotic fruit
The Chardonnay “Koonunga Hill” is an excellent Aussie interpretation of the international grape variety Chardonnay. It is a white wine with a good quality/price ratio, perfect for getting to know and approaching the personality of white wines produced in Australia, characterized by typical and very territorial hints of exotic fruit. The producer Penfolds is an authentic guarantee of quality, the largest and most famous wine producer in Australia, with a centuries-old history behind it.
Penfolds cultivates Chardonnay in the south of Australia, in two prestigious wine-growing areas known as Barossa Valley and Eden Valley, recognized for their peculiarities as Australian Geographical Indication since 1997. The soil rich in red clay, the abundant spring rains, and the warm climate give the grapes an exuberant and characteristic aromatic charge. In the winery, the vinification is carried out in stainless steel tanks, and the wine obtained rests on the fine lees for 6 months in steel and in third-pass French barriques, capable of imparting light and elegant toasted and oaky notes.
The Chardonnay “Koonunga Hill” by Penfolds stands out on the world stage for its rich and exuberant yet very balanced personality: fresh aromas of exotic fruit emerge from a warm and complex background. The brief aging in French oak has indeed endowed the wine with elegant nuances reminiscent of toasted almonds and hazelnuts. The sip is soft, creamy, and enveloping, rich in that juicy and fruity freshness typical of Australia
