COLORINO TORRE ALLE TOLFE 2020 DESCRIPTION

Colorino Torre alle Tolfe is a sincere and lively interpretation of this traditional Tuscan grape variety rarely vinified in purity. In fact, the name itself suggests the characteristic for which it was most appreciated: adding colour to the must of other varieties. Precisely because of the berries' important anthocyanic charge, Colorino was traditionally added to Sangiovese to which it gave a more intense and charged colour. However, recent expressions in purity, made in pursuit of quality like that of Torre alle Tolfe, have shown the excellent aptitude of this vine to give full, soft reds with excellent longevity.
Torre alle Tolfe Colorino is a rare pure expression of this Tuscan vine, grown on ventilated hillside soils characterised by a high presence of sandstone and marine fossils. The vines, located at about 330 metres above sea level, are cultivated under a certified organic system. Following manual harvesting, the grapes are placed in vitrified cement vats for spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in contact with the skins conducted solely by indigenous yeasts. Once the fermentation process is complete, the mass is decanted into oak tonneaux where the ageing phase of about 10 months takes place, preceding bottling and a further few months' rest in glass before final marketing.
The Colorino from the Torre alle Tolfe winery in Siena has a characteristic dark and intense crimson red colour. The nose unfolds on vivid fruity perceptions of blackberry and cherry, followed by notes of underbrush and delicate peppery hints. In the mouth it is intense, full and persistent, with gritty tannins and a juicy freshness that balances the taste profile.
