Roccapesta is an expressive Morellino di Scansano Riserva aged in wood barrel for some months with pleasenty notes of sweet spices, mediterranean hints and vegetal sensations
The Tuscan winery Roccapesta introduces Morellino di Scansano 'Roccapesta', a fine red wine that expresses all the character of Morellino di Scansano, a well-known appellation of the Tuscan Maremma. By adopting precision viticulture, aimed at obtaining wines of great quality, over the years the Roccapesta winery has strongly established itself within the area. Sangiovese, represented by the local Morellino biotype, then represents the varietal fulcrum of the estate, flanked by small percentages of other black grape varieties such as Ciliegiolo.
The Morellino di Scansano 'Roccapesta' of the Roccapesta winery originates from a blend of Sangiovese (96%) and Ciliegiolo (4%) grapes grown on mixed-textured soils, characterised mainly by an abundance of skeleton and clay. The rows have an average age of over 20 years and are located between 200 and 270 metres above sea level. When the grapes have reached the correct degree of ripeness, the grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected. They are then placed in stainless steel tanks for temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation, combined with about three weeks of maceration on the skins. The mass is then left to age for a year in oak barrels and is then bottled without any filtration, before undergoing a further 12 months of rest before release.
To the eye, the 'Roccapesta' Morellino di Scansano Roccapesta has a ruby red colour with slight garnet hues. The aromatic bouquet is broad and intense, composed of hints of cherry, red flowers and aromatic herbs that intertwine with pleasant sensations of sweet spices. Full, balanced and persistent on the palate, characterised by excellent freshness and velvety tannins.
