"Phenix" by Geschickt is a Pinot Gris with a bright copper orange color, due to the long maceration. The grapes stay on the skins for 30 days, before spontaneous fermentation by indigenous yeasts. Without any addition of sulfur, the wine remains to age in oak barrels for 12 months. An intense and characteristic flavor, rich in aromas of rhubarb, strawberry with citrus notes of grapefruit

The Alsatian winery Geschickt introduces the Pinot Gris ‘Phénix’, an original interpretation that impresses with its characteristic bright orange-copper color. In fact, Pinot Gris is classified as a gray-skinned variety, characterized by berries with a pink-grayish color, and thus the winemaking process in contact with the skins extracts the pigments contained in them, determining the peculiar copper color of the wine. This grape variety probably originated in Burgundy, where it arose from a genetic mutation of Pinot Noir.

The Pinot Gris ‘Phenix’ by Geschickt is a 100% Pinot Grigio grown according to the principles of certified organic and biodynamic agriculture. The vines, with an average age of over 25 years, are rooted in clay-limestone soils of alluvial origin. The harvest is done manually, and the bunches are then transferred to the winery where spontaneous alcoholic fermentation takes place in oak barrels, accompanied by a remarkable 30 days of skin maceration. Once the fermentation process is complete, the wine matures for about a year in large oak barrels and is finally bottled without any clarification and filtration and without the addition of sulfites.

To the eye, the ‘Phenix’ Pinot Gris Geschickt displays a unique bright orange-copper hue. Perceptions of rhubarb, pomegranate, and red blueberries describe the olfactory panorama, interspersed with hints of lemon zest. On the palate, it is broad and lively, with a distinct fresh-salty push and well-integrated tannins. Due to its characteristics, the Pinot Gris ‘Phenix’ pairs excellently with various land appetizers, such as platters of cold cuts and cheeses, or with first courses and legume soups. It is also worth trying with ethnic cuisine, such as North African or Middle Eastern dishes.
