ROSSESE 'U BASTIO' BIO VIO 2022 DESCRIPTION

The Rossese 'U Bastio' from the Bio Vio winery is the most classic red wine of the Riviera Ligure di Ponente, an authentic and straightforward expression of one of the area's most interesting grape varieties. Rossese is a red grape variety that expresses delicate, floral, fruity, fresh and not very tannic wines. It goes wonderfully with first courses dressed with tasty ragùs, fish soup, or, more generally, seafood guazzetti with tomato sauce. Drunk slightly chilled, it enhances its elegant finesse, bringing to the fore a bouquet reminiscent of rose petals and small red berries.

U Bastio' wine is a Rossese produced by one of the famous wineries in the Albenga area, which for many years has decided not to use herbicides, fertilisers and chemicals to espouse the philosophy of organic farming. Bio Vio is a family-run business that produces genuine and authentic wines that wine enthusiasts particularly appreciate in search of a typical local taste. The winery has always focused on native Ligurian grape varieties, particularly Pigato, Vermentino Rossese, and Guarnaccia. The Rossese vines are cultivated in the Bastia d'Albenga area at around 100 metres above sea level on soils with a predominantly clayey matrix. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with maceration on the skins and daily pumping over. The wine rests for about 4 months in stainless steel and ends its ageing period with a few months in the bottle.

The Rossese wine 'U Bastio' is an excellence of the Bio Vio winery. It comes from old vines that are almost 60 years old. It is a fine and elegant red, capable of expressing the philosophy of a producer who has always wanted to work in harmony with nature. In the glass, it is a brilliant ruby red, immediately revealing scents of dog rose, geranium and red flowers, aromas of raspberry, redcurrant and wild strawberry, accompanied by nuances of aromatic herbs from the Mediterranean maquis. The sip is subtle and delicate, with a silky tannic texture and a fresh, harmonious finish. Light and flowing, it is one of the most suitable reds to enjoy during the summer.
