Sant'Orsola's Vermouth Rosso Superiore is a soft, complex and intensely aromatic spiced wine from Turin. Born from the union of Piedmontese wine, sugar, alcohol and an infusion of herbs and spices, this distillate is characterised by pungent notes of absinthe, aromas of cinchona and hints of citrus. Perfect to drink alone as a digestive, it can also be combined with other blends to make fresh, sensational cocktails
The Vermouth di Torino Rosso Superiore from the Sant’Orsola estate is a flavored wine with a warm and spicy taste, pleasantly bitter. The Consorzio del Vermouth di Torino regulates the production of the most iconic Italian flavored wine, which originated in the 18th century at the foot of the Alps. For the Vermouth Superiore type, the alcohol content must not be less than 17% and the vermouth must come from at least 50% Piedmontese wines flavored with herbs, different from absinthe, cultivated or harvested in Piemonte.
For the production of Vermouth di Torino Sant’Orsola Rosso Superiore, a combination of ingredients is used, such as red wine from Piemonte with Denominazione di Origine Controllata, aromatic herbs, various spices, barks, roots, and carefully selected flowers. In particular, it consists of 5 ingredients among herbs and spices, including notably Roman absinthe. The botanicals are then infused in a hydroalcoholic solution and, after an appropriate extraction period, the infusion is then blended with the red wine base and sugar. Followed by the maturation of a few months that precedes the final bottling.
To the eye, the Vermouth Rosso Superiore from Sant'Orsola shows a dark garnet red color. On the nose, intense and seductive aromas of absinthe, cinchona, and citrus are perceived, meeting distinct spicy notes. The taste is soft and balanced, with remarkable complexity, and a very pleasant bitter finish that recalls the barks. This Vermouth Rosso Superiore can be served neat or with a few ice cubes as a tasty digestif, although it also proves to be an exceptional base for the preparation of cocktails, from the most classic Negroni, Americano, and Manhattan, to the more imaginative and creative ones.
