Chardonnay 'Xaxaxa' Can Valles 2023

The ‘XaXaXa’ from the Catalan winery Can Vallès is a white wine with excellent balance and pleasantness, skillfully uniting the terroir of the Xarel-lo grape with the international character of Chardonnay. This blend is not a novelty in Catalonia, as it is particularly appreciated for the harmonious combination of the body and elegance of Chardonnay with the acidity and light aromaticity of Xarel-lo. The name ‘XaXaXa’, pronounced like “cha-cha-cha”, was chosen as it references both the initial syllable of Xarel-lo and the sound of the first syllable of Chardonnay. The third “Xa” adds melody to the name, evoking the famous Latin American dance of cha cha cha.

Can Vallès ‘XaXaXa’ comes from a blend of Xarel-lo and Chardonnay grapes, varieties grown under certified organic farming on clay-limestone soils, rich in rocks and situated at an altitude between 330 and 400 meters above sea level. The grapes of the two varieties are vinified separately through spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, the same containers where the phase of maturation for several months on fine lees takes place. After tasting and evaluating the two wines, their respective percentages for the final blend are established.

The white from Penedès ‘XaXaXa’ Can Vallès has a bright straw yellow color. The nose unfolds with aromas of citrus, Mediterranean scrub, aromatic herbs, and spices, enriched by pleasant mineral notes. The taste development is fresh, easy-drinking, and light, characterized by a very pleasant finish that invites further tastings. According to the producer, the ‘XaXaXa’ can be enjoyed alone as a refreshing aperitif or at the table, paired with seafood dishes or Asian cuisine.
