Amaro 'Mentha 1911' Luigi Fassio - 70cl
Callmewine's FavouritesThe Amaro "Mentha 1911" is produced from an ancient recipe by Luigi Fassio who loved to propose it in the bar in Turin. Preserved in its ancient notebooks, the recipe has been revisited and proposed in a modern key by Antica Distilleria Quaglia, giving rise to an amaro with a decidedly balsamic taste, with fresh, aromatic and persistent notes. Try it smooth with ice!
The Amaro Mentha has a very ancient origin that dates back to June 1911. It was during this period that Luigi Fassio noted in his old notebooks, with his typical detailed handwriting, all the recipes for bitters, liqueurs, and distillates that he loved to produce and then offer to customers in his elegant café in the center of Turin. A recipe secretly kept with an ancient flavor and traditional taste, symbol of the long history of the liquor art of Turin, today revived by his great-granddaughter and brought back to life by Antica Distilleria Quaglia. This amaro is therefore a tribute to the great-grandfather, depicted on the label with a stylized profile, wearing a hat and pipe. The background is green and identifies the color of peppermint, the main botanical that gives the liquid distinct balsamic notes.
Amaro Mentha 1911 is obtained from agricultural origin alcohol with the addition of caramel, natural aromas, and infusion of various botanicals. In addition to the peppermint of Piedmontese origin, it is infused with other spices and aromatic herbs, such as, among the most important, aloe, angostura, bitter orange, sweet orange, cinchona, quassia, coriander, mace, and gentian.
Amaro Mentha 1911 shows a color similar to dark caramel with amber and orange streaks. The olfactory profile offers aromatic and distinctly minty notes, accompanied by sensations of cinchona, caramel, medicinal herbs, herbal notes, bitter citrus hints, and touches of oriental spices. On the palate, it presents an intense, deep body with very long taste-olfactory persistence, with a bitter taste balanced by pleasant sugary notes. Best enjoyed neat with ice as a digestif after a meal or, for those who love the art of mixing, to be tested as an ingredient for intense long drinks!
