Barbera d'Alba Superiore Vajra 2023
Organic and biodynamicThe Barbera d'Alba Superiore by Vajra is a full-bodied and intense Piedmontese red wine, coming from two important estate crus. The aromatic profile consists of ripe red fruits, underbrush, and earth with hints of floral and spicy notes. The taste is broad and deep, muscular and powerful, enveloped by elegant and well-integrated tannins.
This Barbera d'Alba Superiore is referred to by the Vayra family as a "Barbera that baroleggia". This is how the special Barbera wines were indicated by the farmers of the past, those that, after a good aging, were able to present themselves with strength, body, and vigor. And it is precisely thanks to a maturation of 22 months in wood that this label manages to confirm this expression, also thanks to the origin of the grapes, grown within two of the most important crus that the winery can boast. A label with a beautiful aromatic strength, expressing energy both on the nose and in the mouth.
The Barbera d'Alba Superiore is born from the pure use of Barbera grapes, cultivated within some of the best vineyards owned by Vajra. The vines of this variety are indeed grown in the crus Bricco delle Viole and Bricco Bertone, characterized by a subsoil predominantly composed of marls and clay, with the presence of magnesium and manganese. The grapes, once harvested during the important phase of the harvest, in October, ferment in steel while remaining in contact with the skins, macerating for a long period, about 35 days. It is then followed by aging, carried out for 22 months in oak barrels and some second-pass pieces.
This Barbera d'Alba Superiore presents itself, upon visual examination, with a very bright and inviting ruby red color. On the nose, distinct notes of ripe fruit are perceived, enhanced by woody touches and tertiary nuances. On the palate, it has an excellent structure, with a deep sip, characterized by a pleasantly fresh vein and fine, subtle tannins. A bottle of personality, aiming to establish the most important products made by the Vajra winery, and telling the deep bond that unites the winery with the terroir of the Langhe in Piemonte.
