Cygnus Tenuta Regaleali - Tasca d'Almerita 2021
The Cygnus is a Sicilian red wine that is fruity, soft, and round, made from Nero d'Avola and Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in barriques for 14 months. Blackberries, cherries, flowers, berries, sweet spices, and tobacco enliven a rich and vigorous sip, with good and balanced aromatic intensity.
Tenuta Regaleali Tasca d’Almerita ‘Cygnus’ is a red wine skilled at combining the Mediterranean warmth of Nero d’Avola and the peculiar character of Cabernet Sauvignon, in a rich and harmonious marriage. This label represents a tribute to Richard Wagner, the German composer who completed the third act of the opera “Parsifal” in the garden of Villa Tasca in Palermo in 1881, inspired by the swans that lived in the internal pond of the estate.
The ‘Cygnus’ Tenuta Regaleali by Tasca d’Almerita comes from a blend of Nero d’Avola (60%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), varieties cultivated on trellises in the high hills at an altitude between 450 and 900 meters above sea level. The grapes undergo a classic red winemaking process with controlled temperature alcoholic fermentation, two weeks of maceration on the skins, and complete malolactic fermentation. Once the fermentation processes are completed, the wine spends about 14 months aging in French oak barriques from Allier and Tronçais of 225 liters, 30% new and 70% second and third passage.
To the eye, the Sicilian blend ‘Cygnus’ from the renowned winery Tasca d’Almerita – Tenuta Regaleali presents itself with an intense ruby red color. A vivid and fruity aromatic spectrum with hints of blackberry, cherry, and ripe raspberry, blending with deep perceptions of vanilla, tobacco, and chocolate, as well as distinct balsamic and Mediterranean scrub notes. The taste development is powerful and flavorful, with remarkable softness well balanced by pleasant freshness and mature tannins. The finish emphasizes the fruity sensations and sweet spices perceived on the nose. Although it is already tasty in its youth, the red ‘Cygnus’ is capable of withstanding several years of further aging in the cellar.
