Merlot Elena Walch 2025
The Merlot by Elena Walch is a soft and round red wine, aged in large oak barrels. It is a pleasant expression of Alto Adige from the well-known international grape variety, marked by aromas of spices and berries and a fruity, balanced, harmonious taste, with good sapidity and freshness.
The Merlot by Elena Walch is a soft and harmonious red, aiming to be a rather simple and immediate version of the noble Bordeaux grape. Present since the late 1800s in South Tyrol, the French grape varieties have shown good adaptation to the climatic conditions of Alto Adige. They express themselves with very interesting wines and a characteristic territorial profile, marked by pleasant notes of fragrance and freshness.
This Merlot is born in the vineyards of the Elena Walch estate, which are located in the sunniest and warmest areas, at a rather low altitude, between 200 and 400 meters above sea level. The richest clay soils, with the presence of sands and pebbles, traditionally ideal for the Bordeaux grape, were chosen for planting the Merlot. The harvest is manual and the grapes are sent for alcoholic fermentation, which takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, with a maceration on the skins of about 10 days. The wine matures for several months in large 80-hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels and concludes the refinement with a few months in bottle before being released on the market.
The Merlot from the Alto Adige winery of Elena Walch represents an interpretation of the Bordeaux grape focused on pleasantness and immediate drinkability, with a non-extractive vinification and a minimally invasive aging in wood. The wine presents itself with a beautiful intense ruby red color with garnet reflections. On the nose, it expresses aromas of small dark berries, soft spice aromas and floral nuances. On the palate, it has a good body, with very harmonious and seductive aromas, rich, ripe fruit, and a fine and elegant tannic texture. The finish is of great taste balance, with pleasant freshness and savoriness.
