Pinot Noir Petrosus Yvan Bernard 2022
Artisanal
Organic and biodynamicPetrosus' from the Yvan Bernard cellar is a taut, clean Pinot Noir made in the Cotes de Auvergne region. The grapes, harvested from 30-year-old vines, undergo spontaneous fermentation by indigenous yeasts in containers ranging from steel or glass-resin vats. Like many wines from the area, it expresses the terroir in all its facets, accompanying the sip with aromas of red fruits and savoury, balsamic notes.
The Pinot Noir ‘Petrosus’ is a French red wine soft and crunchy at the same time made by the artisan vigneron Yvan Bernard. We are in Auvergne, precisely within the municipality of Montpeyroux, where Yvan has embraced a genuine and sustainable production philosophy. The term “petrosus” comes from Latin and translates to “stony”, “rocky”, referring to the characteristic abundance of stones that defines the vineyards where the grapes destined for this label grow.
Yvan Bernard ‘Petrosus’ Pinot Noir comes from only grapes of the eponymous Burgundy variety, grown according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. The plants, about 30 years old, rest on granitic soils rich in stones. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand and the bunches are then transferred to the cellar for spontaneous alcoholic fermentation that takes place between steel tanks and fiberglass vats thanks to the presence of indigenous yeasts. The subsequent maturation period takes place in the same types of wine containers, thus excluding the use of wood as Yvan does not want to alter the expression of the terroir. The mass is finally bottled without undergoing any clarification and filtration.
In the glass, the Pinot Noir Yvan Bernard ‘Petrosus’ displays an intense garnet red cloak. Aromas of cherry and currant characterize the nose, enriched by floral and mineral hints and soft balsamic echoes. The taste reveals remarkable structure and exquisite cleanliness, as well as taut freshness and soft tannins. An expression of Pinot Noir true to the varietal characteristics, however defined by the unique minerality due to the singular pedological composition of the vineyards.
