Retsina Kamara
Artisanal
Organic and biodynamicRetsina by Kamara is a spiced white wine of ancient Greek tradition, produced with the addition of Aleppo pine resin. Notes of pine forest, aromatic herbs, citrus fruits, menthol and white flowers accompany a fresh, aromatic and pleasantly savory sip, with a long aromatic finish.
The Retsina from Kamara is an engaging wine that is part of the Greek tradition, a white of great intensity produced with the addition of Aleppo Pine resin. Although Retsina is mostly considered a folkloric wine, as it has been distorted by mediocre interpretations, it has long been that various enthusiasts have been looking for a handcrafted expression of this very particular liquid. This desire has become a reality thanks to Kamara, a family-run business led by Dimitrios Kioutsoukis in Macedonian Greece, and a producer of liquids with strong territorial connotation. The choice is one that leaves no room for compromises, both regarding the approach to agriculture and the work in the winery, both characterized by a non-interventionist approach. Retsina is perhaps the most representative wine of Kamara, and its truly advantageous price is the opportunity to drink a territory and a history.
The Retsina wine is obtained from an equal blend of Roditis and Assyrtiko, coming from vineyards located at about 140 meters above sea level that rest on rich soils of silt, clay, and loam. In the vineyard, treatments are kept to a minimum, favoring biodiversity and adopting an organic farming regime, to preserve the vitality of soils and vines. In the winery, alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel, with the addition of Aleppo Pine resin from the mountains of the island of Euboea. The liquid ages for a few months in steel tanks before bottling.
The Retsina from Kamara presents itself in the glass with a light straw-yellow color. The nose, which unfolds in an original and unique way, is a triumph of pine needles, balsamic notes, fresh earth, flowers, and citrus zest. The sip surprises with its dryness and composure, as well as a slight tannic friction and a very long persistence. Aperitif or revitalizing tonic? Either choice is spot on.
