The ‘Hearts Collection’ Rum from the Jamaican distillery Appleton Estate is a prestigious and exclusive vintage rum produced in limited series through a long aging process in oak. Appleton Estate is one of the most important and oldest distilleries in all of Jamaica, committed to producing great rums since 1749 from its own sugarcane plantations. The ‘Hearts Collection’ line was recently launched on the market and includes a beautiful range of vintage rums that comprise vintages from 1984 to 2003, all bottled between 2020 and 2022.
The production of the Appleton Estate ‘Hearts Collection’ Rum begins with the cultivation of different varieties of sugarcane in the Jamaican territory, precisely among the hills of the Nassau Valley, in the heart of the island, surrounded by lush forests and imposing mountains. After harvesting the mature plant, the process continues with the processing that yields sugarcane molasses, which is then diluted with filtered water from the area's limestone rocks.Subsequently, the preparation undergoes spontaneous alcoholic fermentation through the action of only indigenous yeasts, followed by the distillation phase of the fermented liquid through a Forsyth pot still. Once distillation is completed, the precious liquid is placed in American oak barrels for a very long aging process, which can last up to 37 years in the case of the oldest vintage rum, all in the tropical climate of Jamaica.
The 'Hearts Collection' Rum from Appleton Estate shows a dark amber color leaning towards mahogany. On the nose, a complex array of aromas emerges, evoking dried figs, walnuts, caramel, cinnamon, vanilla, and fine woods. The taste is bold and enveloping, surprisingly balanced, with an endless finish that recalls the spicy and toasted sensations perceived on the nose.
