Sagrantino di Montefalco 'Colle Grimaldesco' Tabarrini 2020
Perfect to give as a giftThe Sagrantino 'Colle Grimaldesco' Tabarrini is an austere red wine from Umbria. On the palate, it reveals fruity and mineral sensations. On the nose, one can perceive spicy notes, sandalwood, and red forest fruits.
The “Colle Grimaldesco” by Tabarrini is the first Sagrantino produced by the famous winemaker. With its expressive profile, it knows how to conquer the scene and stand as a champion of the denomination. With its now recognized charm, it is one of the bottles that best express the Umbrian territory through an austere character that is never out of place, as well as being suitable to be discovered over time.
The wine “Colle Grimaldesco” is made from Sagrantino grapes coming from twenty-year-old vines expertly cultivated by Giampaolo Tabarrini, located 420 meters above sea level on clayey, loamy soils with some presence of river pebbles and an exposure to South-South/East. The yields of the grapes are very low, about 40 quintals per hectare, in order to have only the best bunches to start alcoholic fermentation in steel containers. After malolactic fermentation, the wine ages in large barrels for a period of 36 months, followed by a resting period of 12 months in the bottle.
Visually, it shows in the glass a lively garnet color. The aromatic profile emerges initially with hints of small red fruits, such as sour cherry, currant, and plum, it then continues with notes reminiscent of dark chocolate, cocoa powder, sandalwood, thyme, and slight puffs that recall iron notes. The well-integrated tannin perfectly intertwines with a pleasant persistence, and the intensity combined with the enveloping sensation felt on the palate makes the tasting experience of this Montefalco Sagrantino unique, which also shows excellent verticality. The powerful yet well-balanced identity has made the “Colle Grimaldesco” famous since it was first presented on the market, revealing a right exuberance capable of accompanying the most important occasions.
