BOLGHERI ROSSO SUPERIORE CASTELLO DI BOLGHERI 2021 DESCRIPTION

Bolgheri Rosso Superiore from the Castello di Bolgheri winery is a Tuscan Bordeaux blend of rare elegance and imposing structure, resulting from a selection of the best vineyards surrounding the estate. In particular, the vineyards extend on either side of the famous Viale dei Cipressi, in the last kilometre before entering Bolgheri, a small hamlet in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci. The winery of Castello di Bolgheri, located just inside the village, is the oldest in the area, dating back to as far as 1796.

Castello di Bolgheri Rosso Superiore Bolgheri is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (75 percent), Cabernet Franc (20 percent) and Merlot (5 percent), varieties of Bordeaux origin grown on calcareous soils with a loamy-sandy texture. The vines, located on hillsides, are at an average altitude of 70 meters above sea level and face west and southwest. Harvesting is done entirely by hand and respects the optimal ripening period of each variety, thus beginning with Merlot and ending with Cabernet Sauvignon. The clusters are vinified in red in steel tanks, partly through indigenous yeasts and partly with selected yeasts, with prolonged maceration on the skins and complete malolactic fermentation. Subsequently, the wine spends 20 months ageing in oak barrels before final bottling.

In the glass, Castello di Bolgheri Rosso Superiore expresses a deep ruby red colour. The nose offers delicate fruity aromas of jammy plum, cherry and rhubarb, adorned by roasted notes of coffee and complex hints of cocoa and herbs. Warm and full palate, elegant and structured, with lively freshness achieved by round and well-harmonized tannins. The very long finish insists on pleasant balsamic and spicy sensations.
