FRIULANO 'VINI ORSONE' BASTIANICH 2022 DESCRIPTION

Bastianich's Friulano is a harmonious, soft white wine with rich, expressive fruit. A version of the ancient French grape variety Sauvignonasse, formerly known in Friuli as Tocai, which emphasises the breadth and ripeness of the fruit. The bouquet expresses aromas of yellow fruit, hints of aromatic herbs and nuances of almonds. The sip is full and satisfying, harmonious and intense, with a finish on the typical savoury notes of the terroir.

The Friulano wine of the Bastianich cellar is produced from grapes grown in the hilly areas of Premariccio, Cividale del Friuli and Prepotto, with eastern and south-eastern exposures, with a planting density of 4000-8000 vines per hectare, on soils consisting of calcareous marl and sandstone, the famous Friulian ponca, rich in mineral substances. The vineyards are located at an altitude between 100 and 180 metres above sea level. They are protected from the cold winds by the foothills of the Julian Alps and the Mediterranean heat is mitigated by the breezes that come up from the nearby Adriatic Sea. After the harvest, the grapes are destemmed and softly pressed. The flower must ferments in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 16-18 °C for 15-20 days. Before bottling, the wine matures for six months on the lees in steel, to acquire more body and structure.

The Bastianich Friulano is a rather rich version, which aims above all to bring out the ripe fruit and aromatic breadth of the variety, emphasising its natural characteristics of expressive harmony and balance. To the eye, it is a beautiful, luminous straw yellow. On the nose it expresses delicate floral notes, aromas of pear, peach, ripe yellow fruit, nuances of almond and herbs. It has a good structure on the palate, with rich, juicy fruit, dense aromas and persistence, extending towards a saline and slightly almondy finish with moderate freshness.
