"Mastronicola" by Cambria is a Sicilian red wine born from the vinification of an ancient vine typical of the area of Messina: the Nocera. Historically loved by Giulio Cesare, this variety is able to give in the glass evolved and enveloping aromas of cocoa, vanilla and black pepper, leading to a vigorous, soft and spicy taste

The “Mastronicola” is a tribute to one of the oldest grape varieties in the Messina area, the Nocera. A gem for enthusiasts that revives the face of a historic grape that was already appreciated by Julius Caesar and Pliny in Roman times because it produced a sweet nectar, the Mamertinum. The credit for this rebirth is due to the Cambria winery, which has been working diligently for years to enhance the potential of this variety. We find ourselves on the gentle hills of Furnari, immersed in an enchanted natural landscape that embraces the Gulf of Tindari and, in the distance, gazes at the Aeolian Islands. Here, the Nocera grapes grow lush, kissed by the Mediterranean sun, cradled by the significant temperature variations between night and day, and caressed by the light breezes rising from the sea. The clayey and calcareous soil with volcanic compositions derives from ancient marine Pliocene marls and contributes to enriching the wine with precious mineral nuances. In short, with such a unique terroir alongside the visionary work of this winery, the result can only be surprising. Thus, the “Mastronicola” is born, a precious pearl capable of synthesizing in a sip the tradition, the brightness, and the richness of the Sicilian land.

The Nocera “Mastronicola” comes from the namesake vines trained to a spurred cordon rooted on the first hills of Furnari at about 110 meters above sea level. The grapes reach their full ripeness around mid-September. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with skin maceration that varies depending on the year. The aging lasts 14 months and is carried out in oak barrels of different capacities, from 225 to 3000 liters. An additional bottle aging of 6 months concludes the operations.

The Cambria Nocera illuminates the glass with a very dense and compact mantle reminiscent of the color of purple. The nose is a triumph of evolved and enveloping aromas that surprise and fascinate with their intensity and persistence. The Mediterranean scrub combines the toasted notes of coffee, tobacco, and chocolate with hints of dark fruit and balsamic nuances. Tertiary notes, touches of vanilla, and spicy hints frame the bouquet. The liquid envelops the palate in width and depth, showcasing a warm, soft, rich, and velvety texture, delighted by a soft tannin. Inimitable, pure Nocera breed!
