Verduzzo Secco I Clivi 2016
ArtisanalVerduzzo by I Clivi is a dry white wine with pleasant hints of candied fruits, honey and balsamic herbs. At nose it is complex and delicate. The taste is fresh, light, dynamic, very harmonious and easy drinking.
The Verduzzo Secco from I Clivi is one of the four interpretations by Ferdinando Zanusso and his son Marco of indigenous grape varieties from Friuli: Ribolla Gialla, Friulano, Malvasia, and, indeed, Verduzzo. Through years of experimentation, father and son have managed to find a production philosophy capable of meeting high quality standards reflecting the character of the grape varieties and the territory. The Friulano Verduzzo is an indigenous grape variety of the region, capable of expressing itself at excellent levels, especially when situated in hilly areas.
The care and attention of I Clivi begins right from the harvest of the best Verduzzo bunches, which is done manually, from vineyards over 70 years old. The whole uncrushed grapes are pressed to obtain a fresh and clear juice: the must flower. Subsequently, inside steel tanks, they wait for the indigenous yeasts to start fermentation and for the coarser lees to settle, to then be eliminated. In contrast, the finer lees are kept in suspension in the wine.from six to eight months, to maintain the true character of the grape variety.
The Verduzzo Secco from I Clivi, with a golden yellow hue, has an extraordinary aromatic complexity, due to the ability of Ferdinando and Marco to best interpret the qualities of this Friulano grape variety. On the nose, the bouquet is dotted with full and intense aromas like honey and candied cedar that blend with hints of sage and licorice. With an intense and soft sip, it leaves the mouth with a salty finish. A perfect wine when paired with any fish dish, such as spaghetti allo scoglio, capable of holding up to the aromatic majesty of this sincere interpretation of Verduzzo.
