Vina Ane's Centenaria is a blend of nine different grape varieties, all from centuries-old vineyards in Alta Rioja. It is a pale straw yellow white wine that matures three months in French barriques before showing all its intensity and complexity. Notes of tropical fruits such as lychee and pineapple harmonise with more buttery hints of biscuit, enticing one to take a second sip. To be enjoyed with a seafood first course
The 'Centenaria' Rioja from the Viña Ane winery is a white wine with a truly original identity, the result of a composite blend of 9 different grape varieties, mainly traditional but also including a small part of international ones. The name 'Centenaria' refers to the ultra-centenarian age of the vineyards from which the grapes come, planted precisely with 9 different white berry varieties. Among these, the native Viura and Malvasía de la Rioja stand out, the former also known as Macabeo and the latter as Malvasía Riojana.
Viña Ane Rioja 'Centenaria' is derived from a complex blend of Viura (40%), Malvasía (25%), Chardonnay (7%), Sauvignon Blanc (7%), Turruntés (4%), Garnacha Blanca (4%), Verdejo (4%), Tempranillo Blanco (4%), and Maturana (4%) grape varieties. These varieties come from the vineyards of El Molino, La Vejera, and Tasugueras, planted on clay-limestone soils over 120 years ago. After harvest, the clusters are transferred to the winery and gently pressed, with the resulting must fermenting in oak barrels at a controlled temperature of about 20°C. After the fermentation process, the wine ages for approximately 3-4 months in a mix of French, Hungarian, and American oak barrels.
The Rioja Viña Ane 'Centenaria' has a straw-yellow color with brilliant golden reflections. The aroma offers intriguing notes of lychee, pineapple, citrus zest, white flowers, apricot, and ripe peach, accompanied by sweet hints of butter and biscuit from the wood aging. Intense and complex on the palate, with excellent freshness and glyceric body, as well as a savory and persistent finish echoing the sensations perceived on the nose. It is suggested to pair this Rioja Blanco with first courses, especially earthy ones, such as mushroom or asparagus risottos.
