The Marsala Vergine Riserva “Terre Arse” by Florio very well expresses the tradition of this historic brand that has been linked for centuries to the production of one of the most famous fortified wines in the world. It is made with pure Grillo grapes, a variety created in the second half of the nineteenth century by crossing Catarratto and Moscato d’Alessandria, precisely to obtain a new variety to be fundamentally used in the Marsala production process. It is a very intense fortified wine, endowed with great complexity and elegance, which, thanks to a long aging period in wood, expresses intense evolutionary notes that complete the aromatic profile of this interesting Sicilian wine.
The “Terre Arse” is a Marsala Vergine Riserva produced by one of the most famous wineries on the island. The history of Florio is indissolubly linked to Marsala and even though today the range of labels has greatly expanded, Marsala remains the product that best identifies this historic Sicilian reality. In fact, it has been since the mid-the nineteenth century that Florio has been producing the fortified wine that takes its name from the famous city. The “Terre Arse” version is made with Grillo grapes coming from the vineyards cultivated in the Birgi, Spagnola areas of Marsala. The fermentation takes place at controlled temperature and to the base wine thus obtained, brandy is added to raise the alcohol content. Before bottling, the Marsala matures for a period of 8 years in previously used oak barrels.
The Marsala “Terre Arse” by Florio expresses the elegant face of this great fortified wine of Italian tradition. Its finesse comes from a selection of quality Grillo grapes and from a particularly careful production process. In the glass, it presents a golden color with slight amber reflections. It seduces with a wide and intense aromatic spectrum, reminiscent of aromas of ripe yellow fruit, candied citrus peels, dried fruit, the softness of caramel, and tertiary nuances of tobacco and licorice. The sip is warm and enveloping, with very complex aromas and a persistent and very harmonious finish.
