BAROLO 'BRIC DEL FIASC' PAOLO SCAVINO 2019 DESCRIPTION

"Bric del Fiasc" is Paolo Scavino winery's Barolo, a liquid explosion of spice, underbrush and liquorice, a legitimate son of the land from which it comes. The prestigious history of this label is linked to the foresight of Enrico, who, in 1978, convinced his father Paolo to individually vinify Nebbiolo grapes from the family's longstanding Fiasco vineyard in the heart of the Castiglione Falletto hills. With more than 60 years of experience behind them, the Scavino family's goal is to invest in the most prestigious Nebbiolo Crus, located in the 11 communes of Barolo di Langa, in order to showcase the uniqueness of each terroir.

"Bric del Fiasc" is the Piedmontese transliteration of the name of the vineyard from which the grapes that make up the label of the same name come: Fiasco. Here the vines grow on soils unique in morphological composition, where soils of Tortonian origin meet those of Helvetian, combining the finesse of the former with the inherent power in the latter. What is born from this sublime encounter is a classic and well-executed expression of Barolo that, by its very nature, requires time to develop all its complexity. In the winery, the wise use of both types of wood has always been employed; in fact, this "Bric del Fiasc" ages for 12 months in barriques and an additional 12 months in large oak barrels.

Paolo Scavino's Barolo "Bric del Fiasc" illuminates the glass with a deep garnet-red colour. The olfactory bouquet is broad and heady, played on fruity and floral tones on the one hand and spicy and earthy on the other. Violet, dried flowers, liquorice and nutmeg dominate. The palate enters firm and full, with a refined tannic texture well supported by an underlying freshness. This Barolo will make a fine accompaniment to boards of aged cheeses, plin with roast gravy and game dishes. A red of power and structure that speaks Piedmontese and narrates one of the most historic and renowned Barolo wineries.
