Nero d'Avola
Nero d'Avola is an ancient native Sicilian grape variety that expresses the warm, beating, Mediterranean heart of the island. Today, it is one of the most famous and widely grown red grapes in the region, contributing to the success of Sicilian wines worldwide. Mainly used on its own, but also in combination with other international and local grapes, it produces a full-bodied red wine with a high alcohol content, a deep and intense colour, suitable for ageing in wood to soften its powerful and vigorous nature. Depending on the producer's style, method and area of production, it has given rise to different versions: from the more traditional ones, which come from the alberello-trained vines of the Noto and Pachino area, to the more modern, soft and barricaded ones, which have favoured the spread of the variety also outside of Italy.
A feminine, intriguing, spicy and delicate expression of the well-known Sicilian red grape variety, made as in the past using artisanal methods, enlivened by mineral and marine nuances, typical of the Menfi area. Mediterranean aromas of fresh red fruit, cherries and wild spices open the senses to a delicate, streamlined, pleasant taste
Donnafugata produces a red based on Nero D'Avola that ages for 10 days of maceration on the skins and 8 months of aging in steel tanks. A sip that recalls aromas of lavender and violet and spicy notes
