Champagne Grand Cru

The term 'Cru' refers to the area of origin of the grapes from which a certain wine is produced; the regions that use Cru-based evaluation criteria in their production regulations are Alsace, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne. The Cru are evaluated according to the quality of the terroir, i.e. the set of specific conditions linked to the production area, the vineyard, the microclimate: the best Cru, to be distinguished from the others, are called Grand Cru. There are 17 Grand Crus in the Champagne region, spread over 4000 hectares.
