Sangiovese Romagna Riserva 'P.Honorii' Tenuta La Viola 2021
Artisanal
Organic and biodynamicThe Sangiovese Romagna Riserva 'P.Honorii' Tenuta La Viola is a warm and genuine red wine, produced from Sangiovese from Romagna coming from the estate's early vineyards. Its name is a tribute to Bertinoro, a town a few kilometers from Cesena where the winery is located: Petra Honorii was the name it was called during the Gothic Wars. Enveloping, full, and juicy on the palate, it expresses a wide and very fragrant bouquet, where the notes of berries are accompanied by pleasant spicy hints in the finish, due to aging in wood. A red wine that fully expresses and narrates the territory in which it has taken shape
The Sangiovese from Romagna ‘P.Honorii’ Riserva represents one of the flagship labels of the production reality Tenuta La Viola, whose origins date back to the early '60s of the last century. In fact, although the owner Stefano Gabellini officially founded the winery in 1998, his parents purchased Sangiovese and Albana vineyards in Bertinoro, in the Romagna hinterland, as early as 1962. Since 1999, the estate has been fully certified organic and since 2018 it has also adopted biodynamic practices in the approximately 10 hectares of owned vineyards. “Petra Honorii”, the name of the label, is the ancient name by which the town of Bertinoro, home of the winery, was called.
Tenuta La Viola Romagna Sangiovese Riserva Bertinoro ‘P.Honorii’ comes from only Sangiovese grapes from a small owned vineyard named Vigna Vecchia. Here, the vines benefit from the organic management of the vineyard, the abundance of clay and limestone in the soils, and the altitude ranging between 100 and 200 meters above sea level.sea. In September, manual harvesting and careful selection of the grapes take place, which are then brought to the winery for alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature and in contact with the skins. The subsequent aging period lasts for at least 12 months and takes place partly in large barrels and partly in oak tonneaux. After blending, the wine is bottled and left to rest for another 16 months until final commercialization.
The Romagna Sangiovese Riserva Bertinoro ‘P.Honorii’ from Tenuta La Viola has a bright ruby red color. The aromatic bouquet is characterized by intense and seductive hints of berries, particularly currants, blackberries, and blueberries, enriched by spicy notes and mineral references. The taste, soft and enveloping, is surprisingly fine and balanced, with a velvety tannic texture that contributes to the overall harmony.
